synarthrosis

A form of articulation in which the bones are rigidly joined by fibrous tissue.

Immovable articulation; a joint permitting no motion between or among the bones which enter into its composition: one of three principal kinds of articulation, distinguished from amphiarthrosis, or mixed articulation, and diarthrosis, or movable articulation; a suture.

Immovable articulation by close union, as in sutures. It sometimes includes symphysial articulations also. See the Note under articulation, n., 1.
