strongyle

Any of various parasitic nematode worms of the superfamily Strongyloidea, especially several species that infect the gastrointestinal tract of horses and other mammals.

A spicule of the monaxon biradiate type, with each end rounded off; a strongylate sponge-spicule.

In Vermes, a nematoid or threadworm of the genus Strongylus in a broad sense; a strongylid. There are many species. See Strongylidæ.

A nematode worm of the family Strongylidae, often parasitic in the gastrointestinal tract of mammals, especially horses.
