pintail

Any of several ducks of the genus Anas having sharply pointed tails, especially A. acuta, found throughout the Northern Hemisphere.

Same as pintailed.

The pin-tailed duck, Dafila acuta. Also called, from the peculiarity of the tail, pickettail, pigeontail, piketail, sharptail, spiketail, spindletail, splittail, sprigtail, sprittail or spreettail, and kite-tailed widgeon. See cut under Dafila.

The sharp-tailed or pin-tailed grouse, Pediœcetes phasianellus, more fully called pintail chicken.

A northern duck (Dafila acuta), native of both continents. The adult male has a long, tapering tail. Called also gray duck, piketail, piket-tail, spike-tail, split-tail, springtail, sea pheasant, and gray widgeon.
