A blue phycobilin occurring especially in the cells of cyanobacteria.

A blue coloring matter which is present, in addition to chlorophyl, in the cells of certain algæ, and imparts to them a bluish-green color, as in the Cyanophyceæ or Phycochromacæ. It is soluble in water, but insoluble in alcohol or ether.
