ladanum

A resinous juice that exudes from the Cistus ladaniferus, a shrub which grows in Spain and Portugal, and from C. Creticus and C. salvifolius, which grow in Crete, Syria, etc.

A gum resin gathered from certain Oriental species of Cistus. It has a pungent odor and is chiefly used in making plasters, and for fumigation.
