sixte

A parry on the fencing-floor, probably at first the sixth position assumed by a swordsman after pulling his weapon from the scabbard held in his left hand. (See prime, seconde, tierce, quart, 2, etc.)

The sixth defensive position, with the sword hand held at chest height, and the tip of the sword at eye level.
